Emma Kohlmann was born in 1989 in the Bronx, New York. She received her BFA from Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts.



Kohlmann’s recent solo and group exhibitions include "I Have Considered the Lilies" at Chandran Gallery in San Francisco, California (2020); "Gossamer Threads" at Nevven Gallery in Göteborg, Sweden (2019); "Magic Symbols" at New Image Art Gallery in West Hollywood, California (2019); "I saw two suns" at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark (2019); "Selected Monotypes" at University of Austin in Austin, Texas (2019); "Emma Kohlmann" at Big Pictures in Los Angeles, California (2018); "Half Sky/Half Earth" at Thank You Gallery in Norfolk, Virginia (2018); "Emma Kohlmann" at Jack Hanley Gallery in New York, New York (2018); "Sun Spots" at Nationale in Portland, Oregon (2018); Tennis Elbow at The Journal Gallery in New York, New York (2018); "Paper Bound" at Turn Gallery in New York, New York (2018); "Maiden Form" at Andrew Edlin Gallery in New York, New York (2018); "The Ashtray Show" at Fisher-Parrish Gallery in New York, New York (2018); "Mirror of Venus" at New Image Art Gallery in Los Angeles, California (2018); "Found Pieces" at V1 Gallery at Art Athina in Athens, Greece (2017); "Studies in Obscurity" at V1 Gallery in Copenhagen, Denmark (2016); and "Secret Flower" at KIT Gallery in Tokyo, Japan (2016).



Upcoming exhibitions include a solo presentation at Jack Hanley in East Hampton, New York, opening July 2 and a four-person exhibition with Ebecho Muslimova, Felix Beaudry and Karen Finley, "And You Will Shine and Shine, Unspent and Underground", at Golestani Gallery in Düsseldorf, Germany opening August 28. Kohlmann also publishes her own artist’s books, zines and has created various record covers for music labels.
